In this third moment of the Assembly, we will see three main groups coming together:
- transnationally Assembly Members, selected by lot from across Europe
- ambassadors from the Athens Assembly moment
- new Members, sortitioned locally as we did in Athens
In Florence, the Assembly will start to prepare draft recommendations on how Europe could address crises more democratically, and there are various ways in which you can participate, or indeed follow the activities:
- If you were selected by lot to be an Assembly Member, the DO team is regularly in touch
- If you would like to volunteer to support the Assembly organisation, please manifest your interest by writing to [email protected] or find out more about the possible roles here
- If you would like to register as an observer, please do so here
- Feed the Assembly discussions with your ideas through our preparatory digital platform debate
- Follow the live streaming of the Assembly moment in Florence
The location is quite suggestive, as the Assembly will continue what started in Athens: a journey through the history of democracy and participation, from Pnyx in Athens to Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence, in a sudden jump to what modern techniques - and technologies - offer: multilingual, translocal deliberation. We will build on the foundations created in Athens, seeking to prepare draft proposals to policymakers at local, national, and European levels.
As we turn our heads to the final destination in Vienna, at the end of May, we continue to hone in on how our collective wisdom can help Europe navigate future crises, forging a path toward a more inclusive and democratic Europe. If you live in Florence or Fiesole, you are a Member - or indeed a friend - of the Assembly and this a great chance to be part of something bigger. Join us, share your thoughts, and help us craft a new democratic future for all of Europe.
